On Sunday morning, we got up early to hike before the afternoon heat came. Yes, in California even during the winter it can be too hot to hike in the midday. How amazing! Landon chose our hike on the outskirts of San Diego City in a place called Torrey Pines. At 33 weeks pregnant, our hike was more of a waddle walk, but it was so lovely to be in such a beautiful landscape no matter the pace.
Some of the landscape looked more like Africa then California! These beautiful Torrey Pine trees are the rarest pine tree in all of North America. When you get to the top of the ridge, there are several different paths you can take that wind along the beautiful nature reserve. We chose a path that highlighted the Bay Point Formations in the rocks - jagged cliffs that are the result of years of water erosion.
- Travel Tips -
One of the best times to do a Torrey Pines Hike is during whale migration seasons. From the ridges of the Torrey Pines Reserve you can catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures and see them spout water. Each type type of whale has its own season, but May through October you have a good chance of seeing whales.
